Robert Millikan was born March 22, 1868 in Morrison, Illinois. Millikan was an American Physicist who was awarded a Nobel Prize for Physics in 1923 for his studies and measurement of elementary electronic charge. Between the years 1908-1917 Millikan worked and measured the charges of subatomic particles, specifically the electron. Millikan could then calculate the oil drop's charge, because he knew the other three values. After repeating this experiment several times with varying strengths of X-rays, he found that the charge of an oil drop was always a multiple of 1.5910^-19 C. "Oil-drop method" - An atomizer sprayed oil droplets which fell through a small hole. As it reached terminal velocity, it passed through the focus of a microscope which Millikan then used to measure the speed it took to pass through. This way he calculated the mass of the droplet using a formula.
